The Value In Eternity
In order to have a healthy value of eternity, it’s important that we have a healthy understanding of what eternity consists of, which is GOD’S GLORY…
GLORY in Hebrew is..KAVOD – weight, honor, esteem, majesty, abundance, wealth
GLORY in Greek is.. DOXA – appearance, reputation; recognition belonging to a person, honor, renown. Attracting attention, commanding recognition, looking like something.
*******Excellence and perfection of the divine nature********
THE GLORY OF GOD CONSISTS OF TWO THINGS…
1.) What He is – Attributes, Greatness, etc. – Exodus 20:18-21; Exodus 24:12-18; Exodus 33:18-23; Exodus 40:34-38; Psalm 145:5; 1 John 3:2; Romans 8:18;
2.) What He deserves – Psalm 29:2; 1 Chronicles 29:13; Psalm 19:1; Psalm 29:1-2; Psalm 57:5,8,11; Psalm 108:1-5
THE GLORY OF GOD IS REVEALED IN SEVERAL WAYS AND UNDERSTOOD AND SEEN IN SEVERAL WAYS.
VISIT TWO WAYS WITH US…
1.) THE POWER OF GOD (especially in creation) – Psalm 8:3-4; Psalm 19:1; Romans 1:18-25
You see the Glory of God in what He has made. Please turn in your Bibles to Romans 1 and we see an indictment against man who refuses to glorify God, for the glory that is seen in His power. In Romans 1 beginning at verse 18, the Bible tells us what happened to those who decided not to glorify God and wound up exchanging the glory of the Creator into the glory of something that that person had designed or made.
The power of God displays, declares, reveals, the glory of God. Notice in verse 20 it mentions His eternal power. Whoever made this had to be in existence before it was made. This is eternal power. And whoever did it is obviously bigger than you and I. This is God’s eternal power and we are held accountable for those two facts no matter what else we know about God’s plan of salvation. The creation reveals a God of power. The heavens declare the glory of God.
2.) THE PRESENCE OF GOD (visible demonstration) – Exodus 40:1-33 we find the PREPARATION to God’s PRESENCE. In Exodus 33:34-38 we find God’s PRESENCE.
- In Exodus 40, after the Israelites had all the instructions about how to build the tabernacle and all the instructions about how to manage the worship of that facility, something interesting happens when they get all done with the project.
- Turn to Leviticus-the next book-just over to chapter 9. And look, please, at verse 22. The glory of God is revealed, not only in His power, but in His presence. And He demonstrated that presence in a visible manner to the children of Israel.
2 Chronicles 7:1-3
- Look at 2 Chronicles 7, please. It is interesting that it happened again when the temple was built. This was a temple far more beautiful, far more permanent it seemed, than the tabernacle. And yet it was not too long after this that it was destroyed. But Solomon had made a tremendous prayer of dedication, dedicating the temple for the worship of the Lord. And something happened when he finished praying.
